About Bivio

Bivio shows every hike in 3D, on the real terrain of Switzerland, before you set off. Every figure on screen tells you where it comes from and when it was read.

The name

Bivio is Italian for "fork": the place where the trail splits and you have to choose. That is the moment the site wants to make easy, in front of the yellow signpost, with everything you need to take the right branch.

What you will find

34 hikes in Valais, the Bernese Oberland and the Vaud Alps, each with its 3D flight, profile, today's weather, trains and car parks.

Bob, the site's assistant, answers your questions about a hike from the data on the page. Hikers' reviews are read before they are published.

Where the figures come from

Every hike follows a waymarked SwitzerlandMobility route. Walking times and grades are theirs, read from their public file, with its date.

The 3D view, profile, distance and climb are calculated on swisstopo's swissALTI3D elevation model and SWISSIMAGE aerial imagery. The forecast comes from MeteoSwiss, with the time we read it.
