For each region, two hikes: the finest one on the driest day, a shorter one on the other day. With the train from your station, read from the official timetable.
For each hike, Bivio reads the MeteoSwiss local forecast at the highest point of the route (the nearest forecast point). MeteoSwiss gives a range for rain: we take the amount it won't exceed in 9 cases out of 10.
We keep the wetter of the two days, Saturday or Sunday, and rank from driest to wettest. If two hikes tie, the warmer one comes first. MeteoSwiss publishes a new forecast every hour, and the ranking follows it.
How to use it
Look at the top of the list, then open the page of the hike you like: it shows the hour-by-hour weather at the start and at the top. A forecast is only a forecast, and it can change before the weekend.
A hike may be missing: with no forecast for both days, it isn't ranked.
Before you go
Little rain doesn't mean good weather. Wind, fog or snow left on the path don't show up in this ranking.
The forecast on the morning itself, on the hike's page
Closures, military firing and livestock guard dogs reported near the path
In a thunderstorm, find shelter or turn back in time
Questions people ask
What does 9 chances in 10 mean?
MeteoSwiss publishes a range for rain. The figure we use is the amount the rain won't exceed in 9 cases out of 10.
Why the weather at the highest point?
That's where you'll be most exposed during the day, and mountain weather can differ from the valley.
Is the ranking kept up to date?
Yes, MeteoSwiss publishes a new forecast every hour and the ranking follows it.
Is the driest hike a safe choice?
Not on its own: the ranking only looks at forecast rain. Check the rest on the hike's page and on the signposts.
Why is a hike missing from the list?
If there's no MeteoSwiss forecast for Saturday and Sunday at its highest point, it isn't ranked.
